I just wanted to send out a gigantic Thank You to everyone who joined us at the Pink Slip Party yesterday. It was a busy day, with multiple conservative events around the area, and Mother Nature gave us a preview of summer with a generous helping of Florida Sunshine, but several hundred of you braved the heat and showed your support for some great conservative candidates.
I've also got some specific thank you messages that I'd like to share:
Orlando Police Department - Many, many employees of our city's police department helped with the planning of our event. Freda Vick and her colleagues in the Special Events/Permitting office are friendly, professional, and were an invaluable resource. I have heard news reports of tea parties and conservative political rallies getting hostile treatment from local government offices, but that didn't happen to us. Everyone with whom I spoke at OPD was courteous and helpful, and made sure we had everything we needed to make our event safe and successful.
Rolling Thunder Productions - This family-owned local company provided the sound system, microphones, flags, military support signs, and patriotic music for our event. Kevin Hanley and his family are proud conservatives and have a lot of love for our country and our men and women in uniform. They were very professional, expertly handled some last-minute changes to the program, and it was just plain fun to work with them. Anyone who needs sound equipment or stage/lighting rental services should definitely check them out.
State Representative Scott Plakon, and his wonderful family - State Representative Plakon was involved from the early stages of planning this event, and offered some great ideas. His amazingly talented daughter Jeanne opened our program with her lovely and moving rendition of our National Anthem. Scott's wife Susie and son John also joined us. I know the family attended at least two other events that day in support of Scott's campaign, and Jeanne sang again later that night. The entire Plakon family is warm, gracious, and kind, and I'm proud to call them friends.
Angie Langley and Dr. Jack Cassell - Angie is the founder of www.mycongressmanisnuts.com, one of my new favorite political websites. Just for exercising her First Amendment rights, Congressman Grayson tried to have Angie thrown in prison. Angie's a tough and feisty lady, and Grayson's antics haven't slowed her down. She enthusiastically supported our event from the beginning, and we were honored to have her participation yesterday - she was a great speaker and we appreciated all the MyCongressmanIsNuts bumper stickers we were able to hand out. Angie also made an introduction for us to Dr. Jack Cassell, who also deserves our thanks. Dr. Cassell has received a lot of national media attention (as well as unfair attacks) since he publicly posted his opinion about Obamacare on the door to his medical office. He drove down from Lake County and gave a speech about Grayson and the health care bill that was funny and definitely memorable.
Marco Rubio - Marco was scheduled to attend, it seemed, approximately 87 conservative events yesterday, but he still managed to swing by City Hall and spent some time meeting voters and taking pictures before giving a surprise impromptu speech at the beginning of our program.
Eddie Mehnert and OCREC - The Orange County Republican Executive Committee lent us tables and chairs for our displays and sponsored the voter registration table. The new regulations governing voter registration are complex and very strict, and Eddie does a great job making sure everything is done legally and properly. Eddie's dog Leo also helped out - he's such a sweet, friendly dog, and loves attending tea parties and Republican rallies.
Tom Tillison, Barbara Seidenberg, and Linda O'Keefe - Tom, Barbara, and Linda are some of the original local tea party movement organizers, great patriots, and just plain awesome. They gave me lots of excellent advice, helped spread the word, and volunteered the day of the event.
Jason Hoyt and Phil Russo - Jason and Phil have a great radio program called Tea Party Patriots that runs on Saturdays from 4 to 6 pm on 660AM WORL. They made time to talk with me during last week's program and helped spread the word about the event.
Adam Goldman, Frank Torres, Tim Lesnick, and J.R. Horan - These wonderful gentlemen from Orange County Young Republicans volunteered at the event and helped haul around tables and equipment in the heat. You guys rock!
Congressman Pete Sessions and the NRCC - I don't think I'm alone when I say I've had moments of frustration with the Republican Party over the past few years, so I think it's important to say how very impressed and inspired I am by Congressman Sessions and his talented team at the NRCC. From the very beginning of planning this event, they agreed that our message should be about defeating Grayson and Kosmas and promoting the Republican Party, not pushing any particular nominees. It is absolutely crucial this year that we work hard to pick great Republican candidates and then unite behind whoever wins the primaries. I especially enjoyed hearing Sessions address our group of candidates...he pledged the support of the NRCC and promised to return to Orlando after the primary.
...and finally, a special thank you to our Republican District 8 and 24 candidates. Every single one of you enthusiastically supported our event. All 12 candidates were in attendance, except for Dan Webster, whose daughter was getting married, and Kurt Kelly, who had a vicious case of bronchitis. Our congratulations to the Webster family and get well wishes to Representative Kelly...we're sorry we missed you but glad your campaigns could still participate. My favorite moment yesterday was at the end of the program, when Congressman Sessions led all of us together to the front of the stage as a show of Republican unity. I am so proud of our Republican slate of candidates and look forward to supporting our eventual nominees after the primary.
Thank you, once again, to the many people who supported this event. I had so much fun and I'm so inspired to see so many wonderfully passionate conservatives who are ready to work hard to elect some great Republicans this November, and give Grayson and Kosmas their pink slips!
Very gratefully yours,
Sarah
